headlight bracket

Do any of the parts places make a replacement part for the peice that goes in behind the fender at the headlight hole? The fender is fine but the bracket is rusted away. Also does anyone have a lead on a steering wheel for a 64B? It needs to have a 3/4" spline, all the ones I can find are too small.
 
not sure what bracket you are speaking of. On my 69 there is just the inner rim of the light and I thought it just bolts/screws to holes in the edge of the hole for the light. Memories a little bad here and car is at the shop so I can't go look.
 
It is a ring about an inch and a quarter wide with four threaded parts on it that attaches to the inner side of the headlight hole. It is spot welded to th fender, I tin it is for reinforcement.
 
oh...now I see what you're talking about....whatever is behind there that the light bucket screws to. I haven't done much body work so I don't know. You might try posting on the MGB Experience. Lot of traffic there and some guys who do all their own body work. Tony Barnhill would probably know.

What part of Canada? My father was from central New Brunswick on the Mirimichi.

Sounds to me you are describing part of the fender. The fender is shaped with holes to mount the headlight assembly to. A rubber gaskit is the first thing that goes on. This gaskit has several pieces sticking out the back that go through holes in this part of the fender to line it up then the rest of the headlight assembly bolts on there. It has many pieces as pictured on page 90 of the Moss catalog. The back of the assembly is domed to make the back container for the light and make it weather and splash proof and there is an inner ring that is partially domed with the back cut out so the electrical plug will stick through then the glass bulb then a ring to hold the glass bulb on the ring with the hole.

PS, I just re-read you wording and I really haven't noticed anything behind the hole in the fender. I just thought it was constructed as I described above. I never looked that close behind there even though I have had the headlight assemblys out twice in the 23 years I have owned it to paint it.
 
Hi Bob,
I know exactly what you're talking about. There isn't a part specifically for 'Bs that anyone sells until its already attached to a new fender, but you can use part # 19-706 out of the Victoria British Spridget catalog. They list it for $13. You'll need to take a small notch out of a little bit for it to fit and weld in captive nuts, if you want them. Other than that, it's a very straightforward piece to use.
