TR6 Headers --VS.--Stock header??? tr6

Now that, my friends, is a really great explanation. Completely understandable and very well written technically.

Thats the best explaination of exhaust manifolds I've ever heard.

Thank you!

although i can't live up to that explination, my gt6 competition preperation manual has a graph from kastner of stock manifold vs headers, and the stock put out 4 more horses up to 4500 rpm and then the headers put maybe 8 horsepower over the stock at like 6000 rpm. overall, i drive my focus between 1000 and 2500, so personally, i wouldn't get a header since i wouldn't see the horsepower advantage (more like a loss).

sorry for the comparison between tr6's, gt6's and focus's, but i've never driven my gt6 or a tr6.

Simon,
I wonder if you would venture a guess to the meaning of life......

Bill, the meaning of life becomes much clearer when you join this forum.

Life, liberty and the pursuit of a clean, dry garage floor.

Boy, Paul, you're dreaming. That'll never happen!

Lots of great intelligent information here. I have a 70 TR6 with dual dgv webers (previous owner), and the early 6 into 1 stock exhaust. Pretty sure it has a stock cam. The power is ok, but I’d like more between 2000 and 5000.

I have access to a Stanpart 6 into 2 cast iron exhaust manifold that will fit the early engines. Would there be much advantage in making this swap? Sounds like it might be best going into the single exhaust pipe with free flow muffler? Thoughts? HP gain for normal street driving?

You do know that thread quit about 14 years ago? All the photos, .gifs and such are NLA. Some posters have no recent activity, some none in 5 years. Not sure how much response you'll get.
Headers for me have been used for very restrictive factory manifold solutions, but generally for fitment issues, like a flatmotor into a 1949 Willys Wagon.
Most times I have had a vehicle in the shop with headers, it's been a royal PITA. Some are designed to make access to retaining hardware impossible, some spark plugs need a box end wrench to remove, burned plug wires, leaking gaskets, rusted out tubes.

Two thoughts Headers are thinner adds more heat under carbs extra cooling is needed. Normal asperated motors need some back pressure that is why the higher RPM show better with headers.
So if you run at 5000 with headers and twin pipes and flow through mufflers go for it. or cool the noise and stay stock. Madflyer
