Header/ Exhaust Manifold Wrap

Any one every use these? Just curious if they actually work? I've read some things which say they can reduce under hood temps by 70%(?) Is that true?

If so, does that cause issues elsewhere? That's an awful lot of heat to be redirecting - unless it simply exits out the tailpipe I guess.

I have the stock cast iron manifold. Do headers throw off a lot more heat?

Thanks

Bob

I have my header wrapped and really haven't used the car much since. What I have heard though is that they can cause headers to rot out very quickly.

Several years ago I had a header on one of my race cars and I wrapped the header with the cloth type tape. Raced the car all season long, underhood temps were down and car seem to run a little better. After the race season was over, I tore the motor down for a rebuild and I discovered my header was cracked in several places. I am sure that using the header wrap cost me a set of good headers. I never used the wrap again and I think that I still have about half a box/roll still on the shelf. Good Luck, Bill C. Mesa, Az.
