Head Questions

Due to high oil consumption and carboning up valves (mainly on two cylinders) I'm going to have a head rebuilt. (I'd like to rebuild an engine, but don't want to spend the big bucks on that right now).

My '74 TR-6 has an engine from a GT-6 that had been 'stroked' with a TR-6 crank. I also bought a 'correct' '74 engine.

I was planning to use the head from the '74 engine, but the GT-6 head has 1.25 diameter exhaust valves, and the '74 head has 1.19 diameter exhaust valves.
Both heads have the same manifold spacing for the later intake and exhaust manifolds, so that's not an issue.

I'm planning on having the head shaved for about 9.5 compression, bronze valve guides with valve seals, stainless valves, and hardened exhaust valve seat inserts installed.

I'm also planning to send the valve train off to have it rebuilt.

Is there better performance because of the larger valves? Which head would you guys recommend using? (THE MAIN QUESTION)

I'm planning to get most of the parts from Goodparts or BPNW. Any other suggestions or comments?

I've attached a picture of one of the valves.

Thanks for your help!

David,

My only comment is, do not use Teflon seals. My machine shop is adamantly against them and installed the Viton seals.
