Which side UP on a head gasket(Payen) which has copper one side and silver metal on the other. Moss guy didn't know for sure but thought it was copper to the block. Use to be they would be stamped this side up. The PO had it copper side up but nothing he did was correct.

Hi Rich,
There should be a couple tell-tail signs of which way is up. I have circled what is asymmetrical on the block for you.

Yikes Greg! What size exhaust valves are you using on that baby?

Is that a BJ8 block? Mine has a removable cover where the mechanical fuel pump (on other applications) would go.
 
Hi Randy,
Yeah, that's the BJ8 block. With the combination of a higher lift cam and higher ratio roller rockers (1:1.55), I had to make a little extra room.

Thanks, Greg. Duh! I would have figured that one out when I tried to put it on. It appears semetrical.
Randy, you should see the size of the tappet covers!
