Spitfire Head Gasket Which Way? 65 Spitfire

I have a head gasket I inherited with the car (1965 Spitfire4). I am not sure which way to install. One side has a metal plate and the other is a non-metalic material silver in color. Does the metal side go up against the cylinder head or down against the engine block?

Thanks for your input!

I don't know how much help I will be, but are you sure there isn't some designation on one side or the other? I am getting ready to put in a new head gasket in my TR6 and one side does say "top" in small print on one side. On mine, the side with the most metal sits on the block. If no one answers you shortly, you may want to give Moss a call. They have always helped me when I have had problems.
