Yikes - wonder what the weather was at the time.

Wish there were a video of the landing attempt.

Weather has been clear all day, just as in the photo (this happened at about 1:20pm local). Evidently, they were approaching to the north (L to R in the photo) with one engine out. They tried to bail out of the landing at the last minute and didn't have enough power to climb out properly. Two souls on board, a pilot and a trainee, no injuries. It will be interesting to see what the NTSB report says...

Wow - wonder what the student thinks now.

When I started, I had a CFI who tried to convince me how safe a Cessna 152 is. At 3500 ft, he shut off the engine. I froze, and he tried - and failed - to restart. Hard landing in a carrot field. CFI fired the same day. Not exactly a good first lesson!

Based on the damage to the building it looks like they were flying in reverse. I am not an aeronautics engineer, but I am pretty sure the aerodynamics of the plane are not optimized for backing up

I am still trying to get my head around the amount of damage to the building compared to the airplane. That gut was the luckiest person alive since the guy driving the truck over the bridge in the first Iraq war.
