I would like to get a realistic value on a set of 2
HD8 Carbs (Healey). Good shape, recently rebuilt. A trade is in the wind and I don't want to end up just holding the shaft as usual. Thanks in advance.

Hello dancrim,

this is a difficult question.
I would like to give you further questions like this. What does "good shape " mean ? It can be everything.
How well is it "rebuild"... ? Is it really a healey carb ?
In all my questions, it is a risk of unkown ...
Only what you have done by yourself or by a specialist, you know what is done.
For me it sounds like "how much costs a green healey"
Try to find out how must cost a new one, compare it with a price of a professional rebuild. Nearly the difference is the the price that I would pay.

Bye- michel who has carbs that works well, with a little clearance..

They are Healey Carbs. for sure, all complete.
They look good and underwent the "lower level rebuild kit"
rebuild.

The major wear point for HD8s is the throttle shaft bushings. If there's more than a teensy bit of play they should be re-bushed (preferably) or have an oversize shaft fitted.

I think a new pair goes for about $1,500 (not sure--may be more). Have heard there's issues with the castings not being correct on the new ones; some people would probably prefer rebuilt original, assuming no wear on the vacuum piston or bodies or in the throats (pretty much everything else can be repaired or replaced).

I would think someone would be willing to go up to $750--i.e. half of new--or more but, as always, they're worth what someone's willing to pay.

I sold a very good used set of SU HD8's with a restored BJ8 heat shield and restored air cleaners with correct Cooper decals for $550 on EBay a month ago. I was a little disappointed, I felt their valve was more like $850.

I bought a set last year, complete with linkage for $200. I bought them mainly for the fuel bowls lids. I had one the lid was broken. Shafts felt good.

BTW - Legal Bill, I think I have an extra inside lock cover. Will look and see
