Haynes Manual

Offline
There are some things that one just "must have".....I just ordered an Owners Workshop Manual for a B-17 Flying Fortress...yes, it's a Haynes manual!

One of my friends asked if I already have the plane...well, no (other than in scale model)...but....I do have the room for it...and I'm already known for my cars....wonder what the neighours would have to say with one appearing in the front yard?

I'd think it would be the PROCESS of appearing th' neighbors may take umbrage with. :jester:

A Flying Restoration?

I've got a pilot's manual...and been up in one.
Of all aircraft, my favourite, ever.
Followed by the DC-3.

One thing about those big round motors.....I think the Brits got the idea US drivers liked engines that leaked oil (after all the Big-Axxed Birds in the UK) so built their little cars to leak like a radial engine.

I could tell you about slip clutches on landing gear motors......boy, when they go, it's all crew at the handcrank.

Ric, sure is a pretty place you have there, but, you need some MOUNTAINS!

:yesnod:

The first plane I worked on was an Ag Stearman with an R-985.

I came home covered in oil and smelling like pesticide.

The pesticide smell on my clothes was so bad I couldn't stand for them to be in the hamper, so I threw them into the hall that night!

The oil stains... well, they stayed.

One of my memories is changing out a jug and liner on a DC3 in the Llanos of Colombia.....in the dirt, on a rickety stepladder.
Split all the way down the side, which allowed the liner to "extend", taking the valve lash to new extremes. You could hear it coming, popping, snorting and bellowing.

One of my "Bucket list" items is to take a ride in a B-17. Especially at the bomb-sight station in the nose. I've been inside them several times, but never off the ground. Also I want to go up in an open cockpit Biplane. Preferably a WWI Curtiss, but any will do.
Missed my chance when the National Warplane Museum still had the "Fuddy Duddy"B-17
Also on that list is to drive a Zambonie...hehehehehe

They fly around here in the spring and Summer.Don't know why?
Love the way thay sound

You can buy a ride at either Boeing Field or sometime Paine. The neat part is when they bring a packing crate along.......errrr......B-24 and the two chase each other around. Last month had an A-26 buzzing around several times, and a TBM, of all things.
When I went to fly, I took my headphones and throat mic....asked where to plug in....shoulda seen the look on their faces. "Where did you get THOSE?" Unfortunately, plugs are long gone....
I stuck my head up in the top turret, climbed into navigators/bombarier's section...just wouldn't let you in tailgun position while airborne.

Ah! Watch what you say!

They give you a free ride if you make a donation.

Nudge, nudge, wink, wink.
