have VROOM again on engine rebuild, breakin check?

Finished rebuild of engine and car drives again! We have vroom-vroom again! Now I am able to be on the road for at least most of the summer here in the pacific NW.

Should I be checking torque on the head studs after certain number of miles from the rebuild? Anything else I should look for/check?

Re: have VROOM again on engine rebuild, questions

I've heard 500 miles as a common benchmark, but get some other opinions (ideally from Hap) as well.

Thanks.

I am looking for a list of stuff to check. I figure check the valve lash, drain the oil and replace the filter,... anything else? What about checking head stud torque?

Re: have VROOM again on engine rebuild, questions

Just don't overtighten. It's easy to do. You don't want to snap a head stud at this point.

I always use a torque wrench to so over tightening is less of an issue...

Re: have VROOM again on engine rebuild, questions

500 is appropiate.

Re: have VROOM again on engine rebuild, questions

so does anyone have a list of suggestions of things to check @ 500 miles.
I already figure to check valve lash, spark plug condition, drain oil (replace oil filter), anything else? Is it a good idea to check head stud torque (or is this possibly going to cause issues, if done it would be with a torque wrench).

Re: have VROOM again on engine rebuild, questions

Timeing, brake adjustment, you know all the stuff, Might also check bolts in rear suspension for tight while you about it.

Re: have VROOM again on engine rebuild, questions

Actually 500 miles is when I recommend the first oil change, you can retorque the head and re-adjust the valve after a few heat cycles, you may find the head nuts furthest from center to be the ones that the most torque in retorque, you can do it now if you have a few heat cycles on the engine. In short, it's not miles deal, it a heat cycle deal.
