i wanted to know if there are any tricks to replacing bushing on the lower sterring shaft.i cant get it to go in hole.i tried boiling bushing to soften it up and i tried grease no luck.if anyone has any tricks please help

It is a very difficult bushing to replace (as you have seen). When I replaced mine, the windshield and dash was removed, making it a lot easier to get to from both sides. I boiled the bushing (as you have)and it eventually worked its way in. Not sure what else to tell you (???). This is one of those items on this car were your saying "ugh!!!" after 10 attempts. Just keep trying.

Easy

Cut one side of it right through. That way you can squish it and put it right in. It is tight enough that it will push fully against the outside of the hole, especially when you have the steering rod through it. Guarenteed to work.

Instead of grease, try WD40 or lighter fluid. I've used both for grips on motorcycle handlebars, golf clubs (with double-sided tape), etc. I seem to recall I used one or the other to help the bushings into my TR4's steering column. Unlike grease, WD40 and lighter fluid evaporate after awhile, so that the bushing stays tightly in place.
