Had our annual Ag Fair at Sturbridge Village. Area farmers and gardeners bring sample veg from their own gardens, all heirloom varieties over 200 years old. Also put out a couple tables from my own garden.

Edit: full harvest won't happen 'til after a frost. Leave 'em in the dirt as long as possible - more time to grow.

Judged the produce according to standards of the Worcester County Agricultural Society of 1830 - and at least back then ... SIZE MATTERS! The bigger the veg, the longer it will keep. We grow 'em to keep 'em over the winter and feed the family for the next 12 months. No Stop'n'Shop back in those days.

Most folks today make their grocery list every couple of days. We made it up once ever year.

Take a look:

Tom,
Some great looking stuff. I was at my son's yesterday for our granddaughter's 3rd birthday party. My daughter-in-law was proudly showing off her first ever home grown cauliflower. I did not take pictures of the produce, but here is our Caty.

If your harvest is too large, box up the spares
and ship them down to us.

Our cost of food is rising every day now.
We got a real shocker today at the grocery.

Our regular basmati rice sold for $2.99 a pound
last month. Today is is $8.00 a pound. Yes, you
read the price correctly. $8.00 a pound for rice!!

Acorn quash at $7.00 a pound
Cauliflower at $6.00 a head
Yellow turnips at $5.00 a pound.
A four pack of 1/2" thick sandwick steaks- $38.00
My breakfast Cheerios are now $5.00 a box

I'm thinking about quitting my job and sitting
on a busy corner with a sign:</span>
