Hardtop liner question.

To those that have hardtops. When I took mine apart, the interior liner along the bottom rim below the rear quarter windows and the rear window, had liner material covering fiber board. This was held in place by the liner being glued over the edges of the window opening and the lower edge of the hardtop lower rim
It also had some black plastic rings that were pop riveted through the liner covered fiber board. They kinda look like small snaps.
What is their purpose? Are they there to provide extra grip or hold down area for the pop rivet head and/or provide trim for them? Anyone know where to get some of these? A couple are a little ratty.
Thanks

The hard top was designed to be installed with the soft top still on the car. The snaps were used to attach a cover for that soft top.
