Hardtop front header seal

Hi all! I've got a factory hardtop I'm (going to be) restoring for my '71 Midget. I've searched the archives for tips on refinishing (which makes me miss Tony all over again).

I'll be getting most of the seals from McGregor, but the front header seal is NLA (no longer available) through McGregor. Any suggestions? I'm a slow worker, so extended lead time is not a problem . . . It'll probably be late summer by the time I'm ready to apply seals!

Thanks in advance for your help!

Phil

I have a hardtop for my Bugeye that I plan to refinish in the Spring. I bought some stuff from WESTCO for stripping fiberglass, I will get the bottle out later and send along the info. I have not tried it yet.

I'm told the hard top front seal (top to windscreen) is the same as the soft hood (top) seal. MacGregor doesn't sell these because he indicates he can't find a "suitable" seal (maybe code language that he doesn't like the quality of the Moss or Vicky Brit seals??).

Moss sells the soft top "header rail seal" (see p. 77 in the fall/winter catalog) seal, it may just fit. I think Victoria Brit sells one, too.

Does anyone know for certain if this "header to rail seal" willl fit a factory hard top? :confuse:

Thanks guys! Mark - I think you're right about MacGregor not liking the available seals. However, any seal will likely be better than what's left on the top. I'll check out "the usual suspects".

Thanks!

Phil

Yes it is the same seal as the softop and the original is NLA. I have one of the new one's and it does'nt look anything like the original. Have'nt fitted it to see if it will work yet.
