Hardened axle options for wire wheels

Do any hardened rear axle options exist for those of us that wish to use wire wheels? I ask because the ones that I have seen are solely for steel wheels. If not, what year axle/part number tends to be the most robust?

I know that there is a difference on older and newer axles for steel wheels, and I'd guess it is the same for wires. If you look at the splined end of the later axles there is a little grove about one half an inch from the end. These are a harder axle than the one with no groove. A buddy pulled his axles out of his bugeye he's had for yrs. and found one later axle and one early axle whose splines were actually twisted.

Yes, that was my belief as well and I had planned on acquiring a back up pair of axles (thankfully, I'm not experiencing any axle problems at the moment) from a later model car if indeed hardened options did not exist.

I got mine a few months ago from Speedwell in the UK. I believe that they are the MG Owners Club over there. I was very happy with the kit. I got the bearing carrier and up rated tapered roller bearings too. Nice people too....
