Hard starting 1960 AH 3000 BT-7

I have a 1960 BT-7 that is a real pain to start when cold. It starts and runs beautifully when warm, but takes a lot of coaxing (read feathering the accelerator) to get it warm enough to continue at idle. It is equipped with an "automatic choke," that I believe works, but perhaps not too well. Does anyone have a cold start procedure thay would share with me?

From the Moss catalog, Twin HD6 carbs page, AUC935 drawing -- it looks like these carbs have the same mixture screw at the bottom as the other HD6 carbs. You could try screwing each of them down by a full turn then starting. This would richen the carb like a manual choke. If the car becomes easier to start you know the problem is in the chokes and can act accordingly.

Yours may just be out of adjustment.

Looking at the Moss book yours looks like it has a screw on top vs the nut shown at this site.

Thanks for the site. I am going to give the mixture control on the starting carb a twist or two thi weekend. Should the adjustment not prove beneficial, I will resort to a trip to my friendly British car garage and, I am sure, a new solinoid.

A somewhat belated reply. I studied the schematic you provided and went on line to a British SU site and found a similar schematic. Cutting directly to the chase, I followed the directions on setting up the auxiliary carb and the Healey starts now as well as any fuel injected car I'v ever owned.
