Happy Thanksgiving - and bundle up!

Lots of freezing turkeys around New England today. Temp at 6am is 10F! On a different tack -

Thank you, Normal Rockwell, fellow New Englandah.

I’ve had too many Thanksgivings in RI. Last year my immediate family and I decided to change things up and come to Captiva Island in Florida. We had so much fun that we are back again this year.

Doing the the turkey trot on the beach this morning, then we will get together and cook the turkey dinner, watch football and probably go to the pool or beach too.

As as long as I’m still around I plan to do it every year. Happy thanksgiving!

Oh and Tom, for the previous almost 30 years I spent the day in your town.

We'll wave on the way by! Goin' over to the Atlantic side for the day, the in-laws hosting Turkey day. Winter of '78 in Pittsburgh convinced us we needed to be MUCH further south on a permanent basis.

Hit the Mucky Duck tomorrow for me!

I just realized something - on this date 46 years ago, I was raising my hand taking the oath to join the USAF.

55 years ago today I was in high school in Gaithersburg MD. when we got the terrible news.

Same here. Paschal HS, Fort Worth TX. Principal put the radio and tv audio into the classroom PA systems. We listened in total silence, and the world began three very sad days.

My oath was 9 years after that day.

Returning to the "happy" in Happy Thanksgiving, son, daughter-in-law, and the two grandsons are here for a couple days. Two fried turkeys, dressing, etc., etc. Been a great day!

Jesus this went dark in a hurry. Happy Thanksgiving everyone. We can all remember sad times. It's a happy Thanksgiving thread.

It’s been very happy for me. Down here for a week with my kids and grandkids. 2E62C2E0-CEAA-4E04-9C23-C4DB013928D2.jpg

I agree and I apologize for the posting, it was out of place. On a positive note, I butterflied and flattened a turkey breast, rolled in a sausage herb dressing and roasted. Turned out great, don't think I will be making whole turkeys in the future.

We did a turkey breast too, butterflied and stuffed with corn bread and sausage stuffing. No more whole turkey for me either.

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.

Since the Pizza oven has become my go to for turkey cooking we have gone back to a whole bird. Cut all the meat off it then put the remainder in a stock pot with some water and back in the oven for a few hours. Makes great soup base.

 Cozy little group! We had more like twenty-five or so attendees at our fete. Ages ranged from 86 to 5. Four generations.

Made the run down to Stuart and back, got well stuffed in between. Six-plus hours on the road with a great break in the middle. Family and friends, kids in the pool, a fire in the back yard after the feast. All good!

Hope all had a grand Turkey Day and expressed appreciation for the things that make living worthwhile!

We always had between 20 and 30 each year at my sister in law’s. We tried it a couple of times after I lost my wife. It wasn’t fun any more. Too many memories. Last year the suggestion was made to come here for thanksgiving. Pi$$ed off a lot of folks but we had to do what was best for us. We’ve never looked,
back plan to do it every year that I can.
Most everyone seems to understand now and I still have them all over for Christmas Eve.

We have it every year. Wife is a great cook. We had 11. Son/DIL brought me a b'day cake for my 85th in the shape of a turkey. See picture. Also got 2 excellent books by Tim Wu but I don't want to hijack this thread.Turkey Cake1.jpg

Paul - happy birthday fella!

We had a couple of friends over that would otherwise have no other place to go. No family this year - a great Thanksgiving.
