Happy Presidents Day [not ...]

Here's a surprise. At least it was to me -

There is no USA federal holiday called Presidents Day. Tomorrow (third Monday in February) is Washington's Birthday.

Amazing. I had always thought it was Presidents Day; that's what it's called on almost every calendar and bit of sale advertising I've seen over the last ten years or so.

For an interesting story, look up the history of "Presidents Day" in the USA. What a wild and tangled web.

So have a happy Washington's Birthday tomorrow!

I knew it was Washingston's birthday, but did not know about the details of "President's Day".

Interesting.

I sometimes drive past ~Washington's Crossing~ if I'm heading down to south Jersey....might even do it tomorrow. It's a great summer ride in the MGB.

Later today we'll drive past ~Washinton's Headquarters~ (in Morristown, NJ: AKA the Ford Mansion). And we have ~Fort Nonsense~ and Jockey Hollow nearby too.

My daughter's house was built around 1760 and General Hugh Mercer (one of GW's closest associates) actually slept there one time according to local town records.

Lots of George Washinton history in NJ.

I've got to make it down to New Jersey to see all that.

Another bit of Washington trivia ... the day he was born, the calendar said February 11, 1731.

Not February 22.

Gregorian vs. Julian.

So, for us in California, it's both Washington's Birthday (because it's the 22nd) and President's Day (because it's the third Monday in February and California made it officially President's Day in California). We already had Lincoln's Birthday on the 12th (because it's a State holiday).

At last! A reliable source!
