I agree.

TR6BILL-Capt., USArmy dental corp, 1970-72, during the Vietnam "conflict". Worse than Vietnam, I stayed in Fort Polk for those years.

I volunteered.

Had a TR2 and TR3 back then. Those were the days.

To Russ,
I had the same MOS in the Cav('70-71) dragging that 'darn' Motorola around. The first 7 mos. on the ground began with an excursion to the Khmer border, but the last 5 found me in an 'elevated' position as a Huey doorgunner, which proved to be every bit as 'interesting'. The TR part of this story is that my brother was using my '59 and took a job in a photo lab in Chicago. He and a schoolmate find a room in a not so nice part of the south side. After a couple of days the manager told him "if my brother expected to be able to give the car back to me on my return to get it the heck out of that neighborhood". So his schoolmates girlfriend volunteers to let them park it at her parent's place in an upscale north suburb. It then accumulated a record # of parking tickets, which where accumulated in the door pockets. Incredibly, it never got towed. Had those tickets for years. Avoided driving in Illinois for years afterward. Have a great weekend.

US Navy, '66-72. Got out as a Electronics Tech First Class. Did three cruises to Nam, serving as a reactor operator on USS Bainbridge '68-70, then as leading petty officer in OE division on USS Decatur '70-72.

Bought my first triumph a '64 TR4 in '67. Drove the heck out of it, including a round trip from San Diego Ca to Balston Spa NY. That winter in Upstate NY when temps went to -40, driving a 4 was an experience only youth could endure.

Russ, we made it back!
I was in 3rd Amtracs, !st MarDiv. In country from june of 66 to may of 68(two extensions) 5th of May when I was getting my squad out to the perimeter I was given a one way ticket stateside, via Yokosuka and OakKnoll Naval Hospitals.

I fixed those big lumbering Amtracs, and drove a PC occasionally.

Sad thing about my homecoming is when I got home, found my younger brother and one of his friends got "loaded" one night and decided they really thought it would be good to get back at "big brother" who was in the military while they were in peace marches and beat my 54 XK120MC to death that was in Mom's garage waiting for my return.

One smart thing is Mom made sure that David was visiting her sister in another state when I got home, to prevent a homicide charge against me.

I spent my time in Nam also, 1966-1968... 21st TASS ... air support for the ground troops... Crew chief/back seater on O1 Birddogs...

I sold my bugeye sprite when I got my orders to go... Bought a MGA when I came back. My brother totaled the MG about 3 months after I was back.

Hi There Gents;

Wow; Some real Interesting Stories! My return from Nam was; Flew into Laguardia, NY; Took a Cab from the Airport to the Port Authority of NY (Bus Terminal): As I`m getting out of the Cab; The Driver says to me; You had better get that Vietnam Patch off your uniform cause You just may get Shot walking around here!! Welcome Home!!

I Purchased My Very First Brand New Car then: 1968 Firebird 400 Conv. She was Strip Ready with All the Goodies; Cost me a Whopping $3300.00 out the Door: Kept her for a Yr and then Traded her for a "Used MG Midget"! Why the heck I did that; To this day I don`t know but that was the Beginning of the end for Myself and My relationships with LBC`s:

This Buds for You Bros;

Retired Army after 33 years and loved it.
RVN with the 25th ID, SGT squad leader 11B (WIA) then MACV as an INF advisor, Shield Storm Special Forces Team SGT ODA 553, Mogadishu SF Company Sergeant Major (WIA), Afghanistan/Iraq as an SF Command Sergeant Major and finally a civilian contractor training the Afghan Army 205th Corps in Kandahar.
Home now but don't think I'm done just yet.
The TR3 was fired up every six months during this last two year tour and has run perfectly without a hitch, who'd a thunk it.

Good to hear from the Triumph Drivers Viet Vets. I was with the 34th Engineers, attached to the 101st, later 1st Cav. 68/69. Like to bring em home from this current one.

Salute to all Vets.

A special thanks to all of our Vets, but especially to the guys and gals who are currently serving our country at this time.

Naturally, my gratitude extends warmly to those who have chosen the British car hobby with us as well.
