Re: happy birthday to the original "great pumpkin"

Thanks, guys...nope, no new car yet....but, I'm only 63 today - still time for lots more cars!

However, my daughter did give me "16 Laps of Talladega"!! I get to drive a NASCAR car up to 165 mph during 2 8-lap sessions (after time with an instructor)...here's the description I posted in another thread:

----------------------------
Advance to a higher level of confidence in your driving ability with increased speeds at the 33° banked turns of the 2.66-mile Talladega Superspeedway. This program consists of 16 laps broken into 2 sessions. Prior to driving, students will go through 2 elements of safety and instruction training, in-car and on-track instruction. Between your driving sessions, drivers will receive one-on-one feedback from the Pit Road Instructor, as well as additional instruction from the on-track driving instructors. After your 2 driving sessions of 8 laps each, students will receive a graduation packet that includes a time sheet with a breakdown of each lap driven.

Participants should arrive 30 minutes prior to their scheduled driving time for check-in and
complete their Liability Waiver and Participant Information (Medical) Form.

- Students will be issued a driving suit for the class -

:10 minutes Orientation and Video
Meet RPDE staff and watch a short video featuring Richard Petty

:20 minutes On-Track Instruction
Learn from a RPDE instructor how to master the track driving line, acceleration / deceleration points, following distance.

:20 minutes In-Car Instruction
Learn the details of the race car including entry and exit, shifting pattern, safety devices and more. Participants will have their photo(s) taken next to a RPDE car.

:10 minutes Mandatory Driver’s Meeting
This is the time to go over final details, ask last minute questions and receive the driving order. Then hear the four most famous words in Motorsports, “Gentlemen Start Your Engines!”

:2-4 hours Driving Experience
Time varies by experience.
Participants driving in a program with more than one session will receive feedback from the instructors each time exiting the vehicle. This ensures that each subsequent session shows improvement in driving skill and takes you closer to meeting the top goal speed.

:15 minutes Closing Ceremony
Participants will receive a Graduation Pack, including a detailed lap-time sheet showing each lap driven and an official Graduation Certificate with name, date and estimated top goal speed reached.
-----------------

And when I saw my doctor Tuesday, she said <span style="font-style: italic">"go for it!"</span>

Son-in-law will make a video...I'm scheduled for August 16th (my 40th anniversary!)....heck'uv'a gift, eh!

Re: happy birthday to the original "great pumpkin"

Drive safe (and fast) and be well!

Re: happy birthday to the original "great pumpkin"

Well, I ~was~ gonna ignore it (out of respect for my elders) but since the other guys have jumped in:

<span style="font-size: 20pt"><span style="color: #FF0000">HAPPY BIRTHDAY</span></span>, y'old feert!!!

As the Talladega date comes nearer we'll be ampin' for a report! VERY neat present!

Another Aries!!! Happy Birthday Tony! I hope it goes well for you. Enjoy your day...don't you love birthdays?(and they are so much better than the alternative!)

Re: happy birthday to the original "great pumpkin"

Awesome present! that's gonna be fun.
My dad turns 60 on tuesday, and his request is a sailplane ride from Harris Hill. I think we can do that for him. Not quite as fast, but lots of fun none the less.

Re: happy birthday to the original "great pumpkin"

:savewave: Happy Birthday also! If you find you can't use the gift, I'll pm you my address. Just a thought.

Re: happy birthday to the original "great pumpkin"

Thanks again, guys....had a great day yesterday that ended with a super dinner with about 20-or-so friends & their families...potluck (some of my favorite foods): meatloaf, green beans, mashed potatoes & a 4-layer coconut cake Jerri baked......a good time was had by all, especially me!

Re: happy birthday to the original "great pumpkin"

In the middle of a school week?

Re: happy birthday to the original "great pumpkin"

Yep - little kids, teenagers.......started early & were finished by 7pm....guys were all envious of my birthday gift - it even diverted their attention from our usual topic of conversation (hehehe).
