Happy Birthday Dad

On this Pearl Harbor Day I am thinking of my Dad who would be 100 today. When Pearl Harbor was attacked, he was on active duty in Jacskson Mississippi. A local family had taken him home after church to give him a birthday party when he called to report back to the base over a local radio station. The next day he was on a train to San Francisco, and he and the rest of 71st Bombardment Squadron of the 38th Bombardment Group left for Australia, and later New Guinea where he served for the duration. I wish I had talked to him about these experiences when he was alive, but we lost him much too soon.

Dave - that is a *great* photo.

Trouble is Dave that a lot of those guys (and gals) didn't want to talk about what they went through ( I know my dad didn't and he was on merchant ships in the north atlantic convoys.)

( I know my dad didn't and he was on merchant ships in the north atlantic convoys.)

mine was on the USS Lansing (DE388) from August 43 - dec. 45 on convoy escort duty, N. Atlantic.
Wonder if they crossed together sometime? Dad went from NYC to Morocco N. Africa or South Hampton England several times.
