Sam Phillips, who dat?

Sam, born January 5, 1923, founded Sun Records in Memphis. He passed away in 2003.

On June 18, 1953, Sam recorded a young truck driver named Elvis Presley, who apparently wanted the record as a gift for his mother. The song: "My Happiness".

And now you know, the "first" of the story. (thank you, Paul Harvey)

Tom M.

Very aware of Sam Phillips. Recently bought the movie "Elvis" (interesting but so-so as a movie). Tom Hanks plays Col Parker.

Nice, I'd never heard that cut. I remember when I heard the King had died....driving and listening to Armed Forces radio in Italy when stationed at Caserma Ederle in Vicenza.

I was stationed at Malmstrom AFB, MT and remember it was the first thing I heard about when I came home from work that day. Wow, that was a long time ago.
