Handbrake cable installation - right or wrong

Looking at the handbrake cable adjustment in the tunnel. I think it may be in wrong. There is a bracket the cable passes through. The installation is from rear going forward is
barrel - bracket - nut. looks like =l: The bracket is clamped tight between the barrel and the nut. I'm thinking it should be barrel - nut - tab. Like =:l so that backing off the nut pushes the barrel and cable housing back. But if installed this way, it seems the nut could back off by itself. Should there be two nuts?

Looks like it has been this way for ever.
It has never been 3 clicks.
I'm all out of adjustment on the rear wheel angle adjuster. Brake shoes are adjusted spot on.

Oh for a picture.

Hi andy,
Here is a really dirty shot of my BJ8. As you might be able to tell, the nut is towards the front of the car from the bracket.

Thanks for the photo. Mine looks the same. I don't see how to adjust it. Backing off the nut or the barrel won't do a thing that I can see.

It is not suppose to do any thing all the adjustment for the handbrake occurs at the balance lever the shoes and the Cable Clevis at the rear,. If you have these adjustments correct and still have excess play in the hand break I would venture that the cable has stretched and needs replacement.--Keoke

I don't think you adjust the brake in the tunnel. I think it can only be adjusted at the fork (clevis) back by the brakes.
(I posted at the same time as Keoke and had the same answer...Wow!)

The Haynes Healey manual says it can be adjusted at the tunnel. It says to loosen nut and adjust barrel. This would work if a nut was on the same side. Did they change it in the BJ8. Greg, how did you come up with a photo that quick?

--Nope Them Haynes fellas got it all wrong. unless they are talking about the nut on the rear clevis and then adjust it's barrel--

Greg, how did you come up with a photo that quick? OH! hard times make a monkey eat red pepper--Keoke-

Whoops, I forgot British speak. The manual says "adjust at the front end of the cable" when they mean; Adjust the front of the Rear End of the cable.

Note to self: if it doesn't make sense consider three possibilities: It could be the book, me (often), a PO, or the way they built it.

I sit in my garage all day and wait for people to ask questions. Actually, I took a couple hundred photos of my car as I took it apart and slowly put it back together.

I'm partial to orange bell peppers. Not too red, not too yellow. Taste just right.

Greg, do you have the photos on a web site somewhere we can see them?

Hi Tim,
Sorry no. The folder has 5300 files (not all photos) and 1.7 gig on the hard drive. At this point, I don't have the time to organize and upload them.
