Hand/foot pump for tire inflation

Like many of you, I carry around a deflated spare tire because otherwise it would not fit in the compartment. I have had a new foot-operated air pump in with it. I tested it today and found that it doesn't work. Walmart sells an old-fashioned stand-up T-type air pump that works very well, though a bit slow, but it is too large to fit into the spare tire compartment.

Just would like to know what kind of hand-operated air pumps others carry around with them, if they have the same situation.

BTW: I don't want to use one of those cans of "Fix-A-Flat" if I can avoid it. And with no electrical plug in the car, I can't use an electric portable air pump.

Just get a long set of wires and big crocodile clips then you can hook up the electric pump directly the battery. Much easier than a hand pump!

Now THAT's a great idea! Randall: Where did you get this? You say $6 at HF... Where/what is that?

HF=Harbor Freight. Yes... I should have known. Thank you.

What is this thing called so I can locate it at HF?

And do you have an electric pump you can recommend?

To be fair, it was Yisrael's suggestion; I just happened to know where to buy them.

Sorry, no suggestions on a pump. The one I bought many years ago was pretty much junk and had to be repaired several times; but I seriously doubt you could buy the same thing today if you tried. As I think I mentioned before, I solved the problem by mounting a "compact spare" tire on the stock TR3 rim.

Thanks for all the good information. I had no idea these neat tools exist, and will look into them... except for the multifunction power tool!

that spark plug gadget looks interesting but wouldnt you be pumping a mixture of air and gas into the tire?

Here's a description and diagram of how they work:

Basically, the gizmo opens the cylinder to outside air during the intake stroke, so the cylinder fills with fresh air instead of fuel/air from the intake manifold. Or so they say. I've seen one, but never saw it work.

Hey, wasn't Schrader that guy that exploded in the late 1950's while he was smoking on an air mattress in the pool?? I don't think they ever solved that one...

Truly amazing what you get when you put 2 billion Chinese to work at 12 cents/hour!
