I’m having fueling issue
ive discovered that the pickup tube in the tank draws air when tank reaches approx 3 gallons from full.
what is on that pickup?
the fitting is out the side wall of the tank facing the front of the car.
im concedering drilling it thru and putting a tube turned down toward bottom of tank passing thru the fitting with a crush seal..
there does seem to be anything moving around in the tank
anybody know what the situation is on that side of the tank is there a screen could I have knock off the pickup tube with my ... sprited driving?

Seems like there may be an opening (corrosion pit) in the pickup line at the level equivalent to 3 gallons down. Replacing the pickup top to bottom seems like the solution.

Oh there is a leak fuel pump gets pissy when it gets down there I’m just tired of only have about 80 mile range.
think when it get cool this fall I’m going in!
just wish I knew what the setup was so I can conjure a plan.

If you remove the sending unit perhaps you can see the problem.

I have some junker tanks but they are later ones.

If you get down to the southeast part of the state I'll give you one or I may be up in the Mitchell area sometime before fall. Definitely be there for pheasant season.

Thanks for the offer Kurt
i really don’t want to lay her up,in the middle of summer
so a fall plan may be the answer
I’ll keep,you in on what I decide
im going to have to make a big iced tea and spend some time under there and see what’s up
did I mention it’s hot out ?

can you slide a new longer tube down through the old and seal it?

Maybe but would like to know what is in the tank
if it is a tube that bends down on a curve I think so
if it’s off at an angle then I gain nothing
this was a new tank back in 04 but heck who knows how it was constructed

A story I heard from a local shop, years ago, about a mini: owner basically had no range. He'd run out of gas, fill it, the tank wouldn't take much, and it would run dry again. I don't remember details but I think it had been parked for some years and he had one or two small children who played in and around it.
The shop pulled the tank and **** near collapsed the guy who was removing it, as it was horrendously heavy. The phone call to the owner went something like:
"Do you have some decorative red stone along your driveway?"
"Yes."
"Was it parked with the gas cap off, and do you have kids?
"Yes."
