I ran into this article today while after looking over the Facebook page of Uncle John's Bathroom Reader (one of my main sources of knowledge). They had an article on knock-off Disney parks, and that had this link to an abandoned park named Dreamland. I had never heard the term haikyo before, but it appears to be urban ruin exploration. I love finding abandoned places for photography, so maybe I now have a term to describe this interest (although I won't go to the lengths that this guy went).
 
There are a number of fake Disney parks around the world too...including China's "Wonderland" which was never complete around Beijing. Friends on FB sent me a link to National Geographic's article about the site, and since their link to a video they that NatGeo mentioned, I found it on Vimeo.
 
Speaking of urban ruin, remember Oradour-sur-Glane. Over French 600 people massacred, and their village destroyed, by German forces. All in one day - June 10, 1944.


The ruins stand today, as they were at war's end. "Those who forget the past are condemned to relive it."
