A neighbor called me early this morning asking for help. Her car would not start and suspected the battery. I checked and the battery was fine. I joked about how LBC owners sometimes whack a suspect part with a hammer to wake it up. I hit the starter and it came to life.

This thread reminded me of an episode that happened to me a decade ago.

I was driving my Honda Accord to work when it died in the fast lane on the interstate. I managed to coast to the shoulder without being killed and hiked off to call the Mrs. (no cell phone now or then). I called AAA from the house and hopped in the Triumph to drive back and wait beside my crippled Honda. When the wrecker arrived he backed up to load the GT6 and I had to explain to him that, "No... you're here to pick up the Honda, the Triumph is running fine". He thought I was kidding.
 
heh... I've used my MGB to jump start a new Pontiac Vibe because the owner left the lights on over night.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
 
It's like deja vu all over again. In HS my friend had a 1975 Trans Am - worked to the hilt. Headers used to get so hot it would heat up the starter. If he was out and turned it off, it would not re-start unless he waited and then wacked the starter with a ball peen hammer. Many a times I came to his rescue in my 1972 Midget.
 
Had a friend with vauxhall a bit the same, hop in, hit the start button, no go, get the bonnet up, have someone threaten the starter with a big hammer, instant response!, do the same with my recalcitrant pc with a glass of water, amazing what an implied threat does!
 
Best one I saw was at a club event. the annual "Italiano picnic" for the Italian car owners in our club. Where of all places one member with an MGA had to jump start a Ferrari 308 that was dead..... We all just about fell off the porch laughing.
