Loud noise, slight pull to the left, a glance over my shoulder and no more tire on the drivers rear. Appears to have blown out the side wall, but I have to check closer since my goal was getting off the highway. Spare was a little light on air, so we drove to a tire company who filled it up. Now I have to buy one tire. Since the spare matches the rest of the car, I think I will transfer over the tire and buy a cheap one for the spare. Very nice Highway Patrol guy stopped behind us and watched for traffic. Pretty quick change over. 10 min and we were back on the road.
I always wondered how the car would behave in a flat tire situation. Know I know at least what happens on a rear tire.

How old are your tires? Sidewall blowout can come from cracking and dry rot on older tires. Might want to check the others.
