H1 vs H2 Carbs

I have a 948cc (has been running in the past) and a 1275cc that I will put into my rebuild project someday.
Regarding, the 948cc. I have quite a few sets of carbs (H1s and H2s) and have lost track of which set I rebuilt a couple of years ago. I have a nice set of rebuilt H2s that I would like to put on my 948cc.
Now my (maybe stupid) question: Is it required to match up H1s to a H1 intake manifold and the same question for H2s?

Thank you

Hi Paul,
I have a 948 Bugeye motor that had H1's on it.
They were really in need of a rebuild so I put my HS2's (from my MK1 Midget parts car) on it.

I had to use the HS2 intake manifold, heat shield and of course linkage.

Hard to say as I've never had a good pair of H1's but I can't imagine the HS2's are any worse. For me it was like getting a new motor - but my old carbs were thrashed.

H1s are 1-1/8" and use a 1-1/8 inch intake.
H2s are 1-1/4" and would need the 1-1/4 intake to work best. (and fit)

H1s and H2s take their own intake manifold, they are not interchangeable.

Now, that said, the H2s will give you no advantage on a stock engine and even on a warmed over one only 2 to 3 HP increase.

HS2s are alot easier carbs to live with than the H1s, the HS series was nice improvement over the H series. Believe it or not there were vast improvements in these cars over the years, that are nice upgrades to the Buyeye and early Midgets and the HS2 carb was one for those improvments, if you are a stickler for orginality, then stay with H1s, if you like relaibilty and simplicity, then the HS2 is your carb.
