Gunst Throw Out Bearing??

ok, based on the experience of the majority, my decision is made; exchange the Gunst for the Koyo.

Started filling out the paper work and hope to have the Gunst in the mail soon.

Thank you all for the input you provided!! My first experiece BCF has been exceptional!! Hopefully the clutch job goes half as well.

Soup

Incidentally, the clutch is being replaced due to slippage, perhaps due to years of the car sitting idle (15yrs).

Soup,

I think that you made a good decision. Take a good look at the flywheel when you have it out and the rear main seal.

This is also the best time to replace the throttle bushings on the firewall if they are sloppy or worn. Don't buy the difficult to install parts from the Big 3 for that job, we have a much better solution.

Dale, where is that pictorial you promised on the McMaster Carr nylon throttle shaft bushings that I sent to you???

I'm replacing all the clutch components (RFK 1249 kit) as well as the front/rear seals, the pilot bush and the u-joints on the drive shaft. Gotta say, not sure what you mean by the throttle bushings on the firewall.

Am I missing something??

Yeah Soup, a biggie if you try to accomplish the
task with the tranny in place. Simple 1/2 hour
procedure with the tranny out.

Give me a few days and I'll post the photos Paul
is taking about. Been kinda busy sitting inside
my TR driving instead of lying underneath it
repairing things.

I'm not sure the source for the bushings. Paul kindly
sent me a set.

Paul- have not forgotten about the promise. How do I get
a pdf document to embed in the posts here or anywhere on
the web??

dale, When you find out about how to post a PDF let me know. I have been asking that question for a while with no satisfactory response.

And we have been waiting so long to hear that! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Soup, as for the throttle shaft bushings. The throttle pedal is attached to a rod that passes from one side of the bulkhead to the other. You can see it from the engine bay, and where the carburettor linkage attaches to it. There is a bushing in each side of the bulkhead (on either side of the transmission bell housing). If those bushings are bad, they are much easier to replace when the transmission is out.

Hola Soup, Hey Shawn!

Soup, your throttle bushing are shot, no doubts.

Here is a quickie photo of the installed assembly
Shawn is describing. This is one of those cases
where you have gone to great effort to get the tranny
out so why not take another 1/2 hour or so and install
new throttle bushings. Your gas pedal response will
be ever so much smoother. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/driving.gif

I'll post more how-to-install photos later this week.

Tinster, thanks for the photos. Glad you're out driving while we New Englanders are waiting for the snow to melt.

This all makes perfect sense meaning I will incorporate this into the clutch project.

Paul you mentioned staying away from the Big 3 for the parts. Where is the best place to get the bushings??

Soup

Soup,

I'll try and do a install piece when I have more time.
The really important thing to remember when you
accomplish this task in the future is to clean, clean
and then clean again the throttle shaft with steel wool.

This will permit an easy slide of the shaft into the
bushings.

Also look for straightness of the shaft. A few decent
blows with a hammer will remove any slight bow shape.

I think DPO Pedro had no bushings at all in the Crypt car.

I'll post a complete listing for these tonight when I get home.

I checked the car tonight and sure enough one of the throttle bushings is loose and the other is missing.

Also, looked through my Robert Bentley "The Complete Official Triumph Tr6 & Tr250" workshop manual and to my surprise it doesn't address the how to process for these bushings. I am surprised because I think this manual is very well written and until now seemed to cover everything.

Curious what manuals others use without trying to start a whole new topic.

Anyway, you guys are right and the bushings need to changed.
