My sister entered a gumbo competition in St Pete or Tampa to benefit the Phillipino folks and won people's choice best overall gumbo! (I would imagine that's similar to best of show.) Mom told me she was doing my grandmother's recipe so they didn't stand a chance....:devilgrin:
 
....um would that be shrimp gumbo and she had to include okra for the real deal....

Uh-oh - and we're off to the races now... :devilgrin:

For the record, I'm definitely in the shrimp-and-okra camp. And no tomatoes, either.

Here's my grandmother getting shrimp for her gumbo in her former back yard (Lake Pontchartrain, note fuzzy slippers.)

Sure looks like she knows how to make gumbo to me....:wink:
