Someone mentioned John Fitch on another thread recently. Did anyone else catch the show on TV last night chronicalling John's attempt, at the age of 87, at a new speed record in his 1955 MB Gullwing? I wish I had recorded it!! Will have to watch for a re-run!
That was GREAT! Thanks!! He looks like he is having as much fun at 89 as he was having in the show I watched when he was two years younger! The car he had at Bonneville was a silver Gullwing, #657 which was a car he was reunited with and had raced in the '50s! In that show he did not succeed in setting a new record (due to weather cutting things short!), but vowed to go back and try again!!
They mentioned on the Gullwing TV show, that in 1955, the Gullwing was THE supercar of its day...nothing came close!
In Bonneville trim that car was sounding AMAZING!!
