A little hint for keeping your carpet dry(-er). How many of you have those little nuisance leaks through your firewall from rubber grommets that dry out or stretch enough to let water in when you wash your engine bay. (You all DO wash your engine bays, right?) I have found that NAPA sells butyl rubber rope that is used to seal windshields and a small section of this rope will putsey nicely around and over an existing grommet, self seal to itself to make a continuous seal that will stick to the old grommet and firewall and wires for a beautiful seal that won't leak and can be redone and you can shape it with a little spit. (run-on sentence? I think I need an AlkaSeltser)

My engine bay has never seen water on purpose. A simple wipe down with a clean towel is all that has ever been needed. Besides, old Brit cars are allergic to water.

When I cleaned the '59 TR3 of ten years of dust and dirt, and then cleaned the engine bay of 40 years of grime, the interior got totally soaked and mildewy (I didn't notice it had gotten really wet, so some water was trapped under the carpet.

Makes me appreciate good grommets!!!

And I was up at midnight, and slept horribly -- ate way too much. (The turkey was great here, if I do say so myself -- I was the cook!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif )
