Guess Who

Who are those other actors? Did any of them go on to have careers??

I was thinking that Ross Perot looked like the banjo player
in that movie.I think that I saw it on HBO.Did anyone notice the Ford-
Anglia in the background, when they were going to see the Driver Brothers?
Of course,I was one of the Five people who paid to see "Heaven's-
Gate" when it came out.

Me and my buddy used to borrow his dads 59 Imperial and double date a pair of preachers kid sisters who were lots o fun at the drive in movies. Yeah, one of the worst date movies ever. The banjo scene was the best part, I coulda done with out the pig squeal part. I just cannot understand why they hafta make these kind of films. The girls were true to form and kept us otherwise occupied. I miss those days, not the movie.

Don't know the movie, I suspect it's before my time, certainly looks interesting...

It's before your time. I was a kid when it came out. You should see it. It's a bit of a cult classic. The first five notes are a common reference. So much so, if Basil would have said, "It's the banjo player" I would have gotten it w/o the link.

I'm sure if you asked Ned Beatty he'd probably say the movie was unforgetable - its definitely haunted his career. The banjo/guitar duel was a very memorable scene - thankfully it looks like he grew into those ears he had as a kid!

Not the impression one gets when listening to the actor's interviews in the "Special Features" part of the DVD. Deliverance was Beatty's first film role and as a result it landed him numerous future roles. I think it more accurate to say that Deliverance made Beatty, an all but unknown stage actor at the time, a film star who went on to win many awards (two Emmys, a Golden Globe and even an academy award for Best Supporting Actor in "Network.") Deliverance was his big break that led to a very lucrative film career.

As for Billy Redden's appearance, he had a lot of makeup added to make him look more "inbred" for the part. I suspect his ears had a little enhancement from the makeup artist. By the way, the person who plays the Sheriff at the end of the movie is James Dickey, the author who penned the Novel "Deliverance."

That movie was creepy. I always liked the large numbers of 67 Fords in it as I had a 67 Galaxie 500.
I have the soundtrack on vinyl. Mostly Flatt and Scruggs. Excellent music.
