I'd normally guess "a tank of gas", but in this day and age that'd only be a half tank of gas... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

An ENGINE!

I'm serious as gas prices. Chuck came home from the guys night at the garage. Said I might have bought something. I didn't know whether to say, "What is it?" or "How much did it cost" first!

Ken & Drew (a couple guys in our car club) bought a '79 donor car for $50. They took a few things off they wanted, then asked Chuck if he wanted the rest of the car for $40. Chuck said no, but he'd take the engine for $20 (kidding) So they sold it to him.

And it fired RIGHT up, and Chuck & Brian both said it runs GOOD, sounds great, runs strong!!

And so it begins...

((I told him to snag the alternator and water pump off it too when he's over there in the morning!))

I've been stuck on them since I was 16 years old and saw my first one at Oliver C. Joseph, the only MG dealer around where I lived.

The more important thing is that CHUCK'S MG goose is cooked!!!

I'm thinking MGC...maybe an 1100...
 
I'd like an automatic B or C, for the long trips - hehehehehehe.
 
Never ever an automatic! Ever. My Solara is, and it will be my last one.
 
My '69 MGC is an automatic.

It is a GREAT touring car. Drove it out to Vancouver in 1999...just "push the pedal and go!"
 
When was the last time you saw an auto B though? I never have. I hate automatics too (especially modern ones for 4 cylinder engines), they usually stop working before anything else does.
 
Back in 1974, I had a dorm-mate from Detroit who had a 1972 MGB/GT with an automatic transmission...the BW35, same as in my MGC.

Yes...the BW35 take away some of the performance....doesn't really bother me as the MGC is used as a tourer anyway!
 
I'm not big on automatics, although my 4 banger S10 has one (I love the truck to death though /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif).

I don't see me buying another automatic though. I've heard of but never seen an auto B though; I did read of some that had auto conversions performed at dealerships, but that was rare. Most people who bought these cars wanted the full sports car experience which meant a stick shift all the way.

If dahubby doesn't get his Binabox /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif...then you might look into getting him an A. Either way, if his goose isn't already cooked, then it's definitely in the oven at the rate things are going. Especially if he gets to drive Binabox on a regular basis.
 
He gets to drive Emma all the time, whenever we do a rally. Because I'm a much better navigator.

An A. He likes As a lot. I do too actually, they have great lines.

If we get an A though, I'm thinking more a V6 conversion.
 
Actually, you could take that B engine that dahubby bought, get the gearbox for another $10 (hehehe) and convert the A to use that drivetrain. That way, you get a good solid 5 main engine that you already know your way around, and you keep a good semblance of originality.
 
You could find a decent A shell, swap the rest of the drive train from that '79 being parted out, and you'd have a solid driver going on there.
 
Or you can do what Brent is doing and slowly build up a high preformance B engine and swap it into emma at a later date.

If I can find a good deal on a used engine I'm thinking about doing the same thing.
 
I can't wait until my just acquired MGC GT automatic transmission car is sorted out. I've driven one before and fell in love with it. While not necessarily a sports car, she definitely was a "grand touring" car!
 
I like the way you guys think. I'm calling Chuck, telling him he might as well grab the gearbox and a few other bits off that car. We do have at least one, soon to be 2, non-OD transmissions here.

I have had several C's in the past. I have found that if you build the motor with more HP, the gear box tends to brake. That is why I looked for a automatic when I purchased my last one.
