I thought sure there would already by 100s of answers by now!

1932 (?) Rockne (via Studebaker)

If I'm right, please deliver it to my front door this afternoon.

Or tomorrow at the latest. :jester:

Tom is right! Named in honer of Knute Rockney of foot ball fame. Originally built in Canada by Studebaker, manufacturing was moved to the US approximately a year or two later due to the re organizing of Studebaker. The Rockney was dropped after his death and the cars left were shipped to Norway in kit form. Why Norway?

SORRY TOM, I GET FIRST PICK! :jester:

Paul, no problem. But after you've worked out all the car's bugs. you can ship it to me.

Why Norway? Just a guess, but Studebaker went bankrupt (receivership) in 1933. Knute Rockne was born in Norway, so I guess they were sending the parts "home" to the personal connection, and hoping for the best (profit and PR).

By the way, one of my favorite Studebakers:

Oh, yeah - LOVED the Avanti when it came on the scene ('63?). First one I saw was that year, at a local sports car race in Corpus Christi.

My first look at it was -I think- 1961 when they did demo laps at the Lake Garnett KS SCCA national race. Was supposedly one of the early intro events. I would have to find the dash plaque to know the year for sure.

Looks like we were all around the date, Dale:

you've got at least one person for company :grouphug:

I had a bullet nose back in 58/59 when I was in the service. The guys used to joke and say when they saw me in the car, they never knew if I was coming or going! Believe it or not and all joking aside, other than a Plymouth I had, it was the quietest car I ever owned! You could not hear or feel the engine run while setting in the car and the ride was smooth as silk. Had great visibility! (Grin). PJ

Everyone always ooohhhs and aaahhhhsss over the 2 door coupes with the V8, but my baby is the far rarer car these days.

Jody - what a great car!

Any links to more pictures? interior, engine, trunk, etc.?

Lucky guy!

Here's her page: https://www.theymightberacing.com/MyCars/Studebaker1953Champion.aspx

And here's the resto work so far:

She was actually my daily driver from ~1999 to 2005 until I bought a Porsche and neglected her a bit. Current plan is to get the car roadworthy, drive it for a while, and then do a complete resto with a rebuilt motor, two tone black/white paintjob and a houndstooth interior. it's the only classic I presently own that can fit my burgeoning family.

Jody - PM sent.
