Wanted GT6+

Hey folks! I'm new as of last night, but super excited to have already been welcomed a couple times. It seems like I found a great place to connect with like-minded folks.

I'm interested in finding a GT6+ and would love some help. I'm currently a software engineer but in a former life (OMG, I'm realizing this was almost 2 decades ago now) I was an ASE certified master mechanic and then a mechanic for vintage scooters (predominantly vespas). Ideally I am looking for something that runs and has a a fairly rust free body, but if I had to choose, the body is my higher priority. I do plan to keep the original engine. I see a good condition interior as a bonus.

I want the car to teach my kids about cars and to have something to drive and tinker on. I am not looking to create a show car or anything.

My budget is up to $15k (USD), but that would need to include shipping if necessary (I'm in Denver, Colorado). I'm having a little trouble gauging if that's a realistic number, but from what I can find, it seems doable.

If you have any leads, I would be super appreciative. I'm not in a rush, the only real factor there being that I want to get something within my budget and I figure they are starting to appreciate.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the club. I’m sure if you Google individual models you’ll get several listings. Stay with cars out your way and farther west and or south to stay away from rust belt vehicles. Check Facebook marketplace and Craigslist periodically. Sometimes basket cases show up there. I’m in the process of doing the same thing myself right now for something to do in my spare time. I too was a NASE tech (original version In the 70’s) a master ASE and dual master for Subaru and Chrysler. Retired now.

$10,000 seem high to me. Then you have to ship it? it looks good , a great starting place. You’ll have another 6000+ in interior, carpet and freshening up other stuff. I personally would pay 6-6500 tops, but I might be outa touch. Maybe they’ll deal. Ask for a price including shipping. Check shipping quotes on your own to see what’s fair. I have a lead on two 69’s, a 40 year+ barn find but it will take a while to materialize. I can get in touch with you if your still looking when I have all the information. If it goes down?????
Research and contact all the British car clubs out there. They’ll go out of their way to bring you into the fold.

Thanks for the input. You’re confirming a lot of my thoughts, but the seller still isn’t responded, so it might be moot. I’m definitely still trying to gauge what is realistic.

I keep finding people telling me that I should be able to get something complete and in good shape for the top of my budget ($15k), but I’m getting the sense that might have been realistic 2 years ago but not so much now. I’ll keep looking.

Again, I really appreciate you weighing in.

after looking at that ad again , that thing looks like a1970 GT6+. 6+ in the US , MKll in the UK. There was a lot of year issues back then. They titled it the year it was sold, not the actual production year. I don’t know if it was certain states or US wide, but it happened. The build tag even says October 1970 and I believe the produced that body till December 1970.

Check out the Bring a Trailer site. Lots of sales and prices, to get you thinking about worth. Maybe something might come up in the near future.

Thanks. I actually was in the bidding on one on there last week. It was the first GT6+ that I've made an effort to get and I decided to not get caught up in the bidding too much. I am not sure if I made the right call, but I'm still trying to figure out what the market currently looks like on the and am always wary because BaT can definitely add a premium. I have an alert on there for any new ones that come up. Again, I really appreciate the suggestions.

I have a '69 I'd be willing to sell. I've had it since 2008 its been stored inside the entire time. It needs work but it starts and is mostly rust free. I'll let it go for much less than $15k. If interested we can chat and I'll give you the details
