Ok, so apparently Gt6 seats are almost impossible to find unless your lucky and find a set on ebay. I was thinking of putting Mazda Miata seats in and having them apolsterd to look as close to origanal as I could. What do you guys think? Or is their something else out there that would work better?

If it wasnt a 15 hr drive MD Canaday I would be all over it! Well let me re- fraze that, if I wasnt married I would be all over it! but thank you for your generosity.

The Miata seats will be very uncomfortable for anyone taller than about 5'11 or so riding in your car. They are taller, wider and longer than the (relatively tiny) stock seats.

And, they simply don't look right in the GT6, because they belong in, and were designed for a Mazda Miata! :yesnod:

Restore your stock seats, or maybe patiently watch eBay and the sales venues for better ones.

Having said all that, lotsa folks like the Miata seats. But not me. At 6'2", 190lbs., the Miata seats are uncomfortable on short and long trips.

YMMV.

What's wrong with your current seats? If you still have some, the best thing you can do is sigh, gasp, and crack open your wallet and redo those.

If they are missing....

Miata seats, you have to reduce the height of the seat base, this has been done. There is a couple of fella's on the NASS site that have done that successfully, and the mounts need to be modified to fit as well.

There are rumours afoot, that the current hot set up is Porsche 914 seats, but I have not sat in any Spitfire that has had a set of those in it, so I cannot speak to that.

I'm in the same boat, It's time to redo the interior of Jehu, and I will spend as much on that as I have in the rest of the project.

NOTHING else fits. Figures.

My Gt6 was used as a parts car for years and the seats are gone along with alot of other parts. IE.... transmission, hood prop, air cleaners rear hatch hinges etc... But I gues thats part of the fun, finding the hard to find parts!

Steve, I followed <span style="text-decoration: underline">every single mod</span> to the Miata seats on Tegler's website including cutting of the seat foam (hardly worth the effort). I'm also a NASS member and used suggestion from there, too, PLUS, I cut about 3" off the rear seat rails and welded them back together to get more rear movement. No go, still not enough leg and foot room.

The problem with Miata seats is from several angles: the extra width forces my leg hard against the tunnel cover (very uncomfy); the extra height forces me to practically break my neck to see out the windscreen; and the extra length reduces legroom.

Miata seats are okay in Spits and GT6s only if you're not taller than about 5'11". And if you're, ummm, extra wide, no way.

Be very careful about installing Miata seats in your Spit or GT6! They may not be what you imagined . . . :cryin:

These quickly sold on ebay a few years ago, think I listed them as buy-it-now for $300 which I thought was pretty high at the time. They came in my TR4A. Now I know why the guy grabbed them up so quickly. The were in really nice shape, not perfect but close and he was doing much a you are, a long term project. So this is what you are looking for if you have an early GT6 MK1.

Well, I have a set of Miata seats, but I've more or less decided on restoring the originals for precisly the reason you mentioned, height and <sigh> width   .

I may wind up buying the raw materials and making my own in order to trade time for money, but we'll see.

Spitbits has the foams, and (famous last words) how hard could it be to sew my own upholstery?

I have a similar issue... The seats in my Spit 6 are basically shot. I have a set of Miata seats I bought... and may modify them... but in a way, having driven Jerseygirl's '79 Spit with its nicely restored OE seats (new foam and covers), I think I like the OE seats better.

One trick I've heard of for making the Miata seats roomier is to cut out a bit of the seat foam.

Sadly, I have a small "collection" of seats in my attic right now: Miata seats, Volvo 1800ES seats, and a pair of OE Recaros from an E30 325is (by far the most comfy and supportive, but waaay too huge to fit in a Spitfire).

Also, try every used part vendor you can find (check the VTR vendor listings). Somebody might have a pair of seats sitting on a shelf in a magical warehouse full of every type of part that we could every need...sorry, I got carried away there. Maybe Team Triumph or Triumphs Only or one of the other vendors could help?

Thanks guys, I will keep my eye open. Im not in a big hurry. Heck I havent did anything to it other than bring it home and clean it out! Im trying to finish my 53 chevy first (almost there). I dont want to get too much on my plate at one time. Im only 28 so I have plenty of time to gather parts. I just want to get as much info as I can from you seasoned vetrans before I begine! But I do plan on starting it this week end and see if she will run! I will keep you guys posted. Thanks again for all the good advise.
