GT6 GT6 Rear Hatch Hinge Cover

Gentlemen,
Anyone know of a rear hatch hinge cover for sale? I beleive they were of the same design all GT6 years. I'm specifically interested in white, but black would do.

Many thanks,
Jeff

Jeff, those things are made of unobtainium, I don't think anyone manufactures them new. And, the only stock color for GT6 interiors was black, if I'm not mistaken (if I am, I'm sure someone will correct me).

You might try some of the English vendors, or check out eBay UK website. There's lots of obscure LBC parts there.

Also, try the Yahoo Groups GT6 enthusiast group, or the NASS group (North American Spitfire Squadron). Lots of very knowledgeable folks there, and it's very friendly.

Also check out this board, small but some very knowledgeable racers there who may help: https://members.boardhost.com/GT6-Spitfire/

I found one in a junkyard about 10 years ago, very lucky.

Maybe someone here can help . . .

Good luck, let us know.

Except for the ones on (at least some of) the early cars, which were white!

Don't know if I have one of those or not, but I'll add it to my list of things to look for....

Jeff:
I'm trying to post a pic from Canley Classics. See Part # 20. Is this what you are looking for? If so I have one from a round tail GT6 complete with the light. It has a small crack about 1 1/2" near the light mounting, which could be epoxied. Post back and I'll get a photo if this is what you want.
Cheers,

Those can be hard to find. Try teamtriumph but I have also seen about 2-3 of them for sale on Ebay over the last 5-8 years. You may have better luck buying a parts car with one then finding one in a junk yard.

Good luck. I do want to say that the mk1 may be different then the other ones. But I can't remember at the moment.

Precisely what I'm looking for Bob. Could you send me a photo of the assembly, with light?

Thanks, and cheers,

Jeff

Jeff:
Are you sending your e-mail address for pics?

Jeff:
Trying one photo.

Thanks Bob. Sent you a PM with my email address and some more detail.

Jeff

Like Andy and Tom said, early ones did not have to be black. The one in our car is/was white. Ours broke into many pieces years ago. It is glued together with roof flashing lapping the cracks on the inside. The outside is covered in vinyl and the vinyl sprayed with vinyl dye to sorta match the headliner. Even back when I was putting our GT6 back on the road, that cover was not available new.

Bob,
I sent you a PM with my email address and street address in the U.S.

Thanks, and cheers,
Jeff

I wonder if that's one of those pieces where I could find a mostly good one, and make a fiberglass mold out of it. We've been looking for one too, off and on.

Found this one at Rimmer Bros. : GT6 Hatch Cover

Found this one on eBay Australia: GT6 Hinge Cover

Not sure if they were the same for the MK I, II + III

Read a post on another forum that the MK I was white and the II and III were black.

Though I'm sure the market is limited, if you save the mold I'm sure you could make a run of a half dozen to ten parts and sell them quickly. I'd be interested. As I mentioned earlier mine is all pieced together and covered with vinyl to hide the repairs.

The price for the used one at Rimmer Brothers is good if you really need one and have nothing. However, I wonder how much shipping would add to the cost.

If/when we find one, I'll see if it's a candidate and maybe we can make a run of 10 or so out of fiberglass to kick out to the rest of the GT6 world. I know we bought a "mint" one once, and it came to us missing a big chunk (that wasn't in the box, so was cracked before it went in). If he'd refunded part of the money since it wasn't broken, I'd have just kept it to make a mold from, but he wanted it sent back for a refund.

I think the one I have is in Good shape, Ill take it out and take some photos

If its good I could make a casting of it.
