GT6 GT6 Rear Harness

I've got a '73 GT6 that has developed an intermittent electrical problem (imagine that!!). My license plate lights, right tail light, and right rear side marker light are all off unless I slam the hatch. Since they are all coming on and off together, I'm assuming this is a +12V issue rather than the usual ground. The problem is that I can't seem to find the main feed for this chain. I'm afraid it is coming from the left side, which means I'll have to pulll the fuel tank. Can anybody confirm the source of the +12V wire for the right rear corner?

Many thanks.

Saff, go to this link for a wiring diagram: https://www.triumphspitfire.com/wiring.html

It may not be exact, but it should provide what you need. Don't pull the fuel tank unless it's a last resort. I've repaired rear light problems without doing it.

Are you sure it's not the rear light contacts? I use a .22 caliber rifle bore cleaning brush to clean out the contact tubes and connectors, works like a charm (mines a '70 GT6+, I assume your connectors are similar).

Ensure that all your contacts and connections are clean and good before fiddling with the wiring. Easy things first!

Let us know what you do, this is good for everyone to know.

Good luck!

Hello Saff,
I assume from your description that the left hand side tail and marker light is working, so the feed from the lighting switch is making it OK to that corner. I would check all along the harness from left to right.
Good luck,
Alec

Hi, Alec -

Yes, the left side is working fine so the feed from the switch is good. I'll let you know what I find, and thanks for the post.

Hi, Mark -

Thanks much for the wiring diagram - I'll give it a try. I agree that pulling the fuel tank is a last resort!!

BTW, I have a good customer in Charlottesville. It's the design group for the National Radio Astronomical Observatory - they are the guys that run the Very Large Array in Soccorro, NM.

I'll let you know what I find...

Thinking back to installing the new harness on my MkI, doesn't the right side feed across from the left along the rear valance, just below the hatch? A loose, corroded, poor, connection in this area would explain why slamming the hatch affects the condition.
I'll go look at mine to verify this, and post back.
Jeff
