GT6 GT6 MK3 Resto-Mod, Opinions Needed

1. Well, I’m probably just going to have my differential and transmission renewed by someone as it doesn't seem to need any work.
2. I’m repainting the original steel wheels, so I’ll probably stick with those till I can justify new minilite replicas.
3. I’ve already got all new suspension rubber, but I will check on the body to frame pieces and see what I can do.
4. I’ll probably just renew or replace what I need and keep the original brake setup until such time that I need more for safety reasons.
5. The engine has already had a zero deck clearance and head skim to increase compression to 9.5.
6. cdse carbs have been sent to Jeff also, so I’ll be going stock in that department, but I’ll probably get k&n filters.
7. Distributor was rebuilt by mr advanced distributors himself, and gave me a points plate and a pertronix plate so I can do either or.

I’m still stuck on the original style wiring loom from British wiring or the Dan masters. I’m leaning towards original. And exhaust. I can't really find what I want here except from expensive rimmer brothers with a tube 6-3-1 header.

p.s. my numbering has nothing to do with rotoflex's numbering

I agree with Andy about the high rpm's. I drove my MK1 constantly at high rpm's and often at red line. During the 70,000 miles (most of them by '70) that I drove it the only problem I had with the engine was a bad valve and after that was repaired it was off to the races again.

If I were to do anything I would try and find a tougher tranny and rear end. Had to rebuild the tranny twice and the rear end once.

Considering the way I drove it, it was very durable and one fun car!

To answer Rotoflex's questions, no it doesn't labor and yes, it seems like I get to a second gear speed in first. I've been driving Jags with Moss gearboxes for years and I guess I'm used to the stump puller first gear they have. When I take the GT6 to slalom, it stays in first gear all the way.

3.63 differentials seem to be very rare and I am quite satisfied with the 3.89 that is in the car. With the 3.89, acceleration is brisk, as the Brits say.

And to reply to Andy Mace's remarks about high revs, the engine does not complain. It just makes me feel uncomfortable. As to starting off in second, I routinely do that in my 1965 Ford F-350. Granny gear is so low that you can get out of the truck and walk along beside it. Useful in haying season, for picking up bales.

Seems like I strayed off Flinkly's original topic, so I will shut up now.

as for headers and/or exhaust system, i ran into this incredibly informative article about the 2 and 2.5 liter triumph engine exhaust systems with GT himself. i have to admit that i was looking for some pictures of a silver gt6 for a later paint color discussion and by some miracle came accross this. guess i'm not buying the 900 dollar rimmer system, or any of the 6-3-1 header systems as they all come from phoenix exhaust. here's the short discussion:

p.s. does he still make exhausts?

Yes, Gareth Thomas will take your order to fabricate an exhaust manifold & agree to ship to the US. E-mail him.
