GT6 Gt6 horn problem

Hi all, I have a problem with the horns on the gt6. When I push on the wheel grip in a certain place, not the horn button, it sometimes causes the horn to blow. Is there an isolater below the wheel hub somewhere?

If I remeber correctly, there is a rubber bush a steel sleeve then a nylon bush under the contact ring. I think the contact ring is always hot, so any grd will cause the horn to blow. I had the same problem (sort of) a while back whem my GT6 was assembled, and it tuned out to be the wire that connects the contact ring. There was a portion that had no insulation on it, so when I pushed hard on the wheel the wire moved and shorted to ground. I solved the problem by taking the while car apart and never putting it back together....
Actually I'm doing a frame off on it, so it really is in pieces, but it was the short in the wire.
Let me know if that hope that helps.
If not I can take a look at my steering wheel horn assembly, it's in storage, but it shouldn't be too hard to find.

Thanks Mikey. I will try to get at the wire and check it out. I drove this car into the garage to fix a couple of rust problems in 1997 and ended up doing a very long frame off restoration. It seems that any small area that was not rebuilt has a glitch in it. I re-did the whole wiring harness except for the tail that was inside the stiring colum and have had to fix the headlight switch and now the horn, since I put it back together. This is the last item before hitting the road again.

I am a long way of from hitting the road with anything...except my head.
I have finished the frame, just need to replace floor panels, then starts the body work.

Thanks Paul,if you are on the Island this summer, there is a British show July 14-16, https://www.bmapei.com/index.htm. We usually have large turnout from all over Canada and the U.S. of Brit cars of all models. This year the MG brand is featured.

Mikey, I traced the wire, but it was fine. I then pulled the stirring wheel and found that the inner shaft had been pushed down too far inside the outer casing. The wheel was touching on the right side when pressed or turned. I adjusted the telescoping clamp and the problem was solved.

Now off to motor vehicle inspection tomorrow and hopefully I will be driving again!
