GT6 GT6 Head Question

Are the GT6+ heads different from TR250/early TR6 heads? More to the point, would early TR6 headers fit a '69 GT6+ head?

The exhaust ports should be the same. The broad strokes of the differences was in valve size and head thickness.

Dave Vizard's book indicates that the GT6 & TR6 heads are "basically common" and interchangeable, but the manifold joint faces are different on the early engine models of Vitesse MK 1; MK 1 GT6 and "early" 2000 Saloons.

Vizard says the early heads have a manifold joint face terminating about 1" from the edge of the casting when viewed edge-on. The later heads have the manifold joint face terminating flush with the edge of the head casting.

So, all the heads will fit, but if you have an early model head as above (mostly non-US import models), you'll also need a matching manifold.

Also, if you don't have the Vizard book, get it. Very useful info that can save the uninitiated restorer time and money.

Good luck, I hope this is helpful.

"More to the point, would early TR6 headers fit a '69 GT6+ head?"

Well the headers might fit the head, but they won't fit the Frame and Body of a GT6.

:iagree:

The GT6 frame config is different, a bit more narrow.

Measure the TR-6 headers, they might work but I wouldn't purchase them unless I measured thoroughly for the GT6 fit. There isn't a lot of room to work with behind the GT6 engine.

Definitely let us know, good luck.

I have a 71 TR6 head if your interested.

Ah, good point. I hadn't considered that. Thanx for the info.
