GT6 GT6 fender trim attachment and paint

Hi All,

I have the stainless trim on my fenders and have two problems. I bought two replacement strips for the front fenders and used my old for the back. I also purchased the metal clips for the strips, all from Spitbits.

In order to get the strips to stay on, Nigel told me to put them in pairs, sharp sides opposite directions. This holds them on, but it also causes a bump in the trim at every set of clips, kind of looks like heck. Thats the first problem.'

The second problem is after one summer, the metal clips are rusting and starting to damage my new paint .

Anybody have a solution to this?

Thanks
Joe

I wonder if, though they might be the best/only available clips, they're somehow bigger than the originals? I've never seen original clips cause such problems. My son and I are working on a GT6+ right now; ASAP I'll take a look at how the clips were placed originally (car is original and seemingly never even repainted).

As for rusting, I don't think there's much that can be done about that. Again, perhaps the quality of current strips is not that of the originals. Original clips did rust somewhat, but I don't recall ever seeing them cause any permanent damage to surrounding paint.

Thanks Andy,
Any info appreciated. The rust is basically seeping down onto the visible paint, it comes off with washing, but it can't be doing much good underneath.

Any way you could remove the clips, sandblast them and then paint them with Rustoleum? I have had to do this with new parts received from vendors with slight surface rust on them.
