Jim, that GT6 ad was great. I recently bought the original 1967 road tests published in Car and Driver, and Road & Track, thet inspired me to buy my MkI. It took 20 years to do it, but I finally got one!

Jim, I bought the GT6 in '88 or '89. I've done 99.5% of a frame off on it, but need to finish it. Install the glass, finish the interior, and hang the trim. Haven't touched it in about 9 years. It's identical to the ones in the road tests that I salivated over while in Viet Nam the first time, in '67~'68.
Code 19 white, wires, overdrive.
I'll finish it one of these days, but right now time is in very short supply.
I've driven it a bit the way it is now, and had forgotten how fast they were, and how sweet that 6 sounds.

There's a historical film archive in Chicago that has among its collection old television advertisements. I was searching their website at one point and saw that they had a TR-250 television spot. Sadly, they don't have these materials posted on the web, and one has to make an appointment to see their collection. I also recall that you can't make copies, but can only view for research purposes. I'd *love* to see the 250 ad.

When I was in High School there was a Jaguar dealership on the corner where I would wait for the bus. They sold Triumphs and MGs too. I would check out their lot every day. One day as I was waiting, a red GT6 MKI came flying around the corner on a test drive. From that day I had wanted on. Well, it took thirty some years, but it's in my garage. Jim, one thing I changed on mine was to ditch the oversized turn signal/park/backup lamps and go back to the smaller, Euro spec beehives. I think it cleans up the clutter a bit.

Jeff, I know what you're saying about the "clutter"; it's a lotta lights back there. Actually, I was never bothered even by the 1970 models, which had just plain too many lamps in back. But in today's inattentive traffic, I like big, visible lights on small, invisible cars!

Oh, and as for Ned's observation in the ad stating "Wow - a '4 speed stick shift!!'" -- well, that was still a bit of a selling point in that era, as many, many American cars (example, my high school art teacher's '68 Mustang) made to with three-speeds -- some on the floor and some still on the column!

Andreww, I don't know if the smaller lamps are any less visible or not, given that all the aforementioned lights, regardless of size, are situated low on the body. At least the beehives have glass lenses, and are not prone to fading or clouding. If I thought it was going to be an issue, I'd install a high mount brake light in the top of the hatch glass.
And, those rubber plinths for the larger lights are:
1. Unavailable. (Although I do have a full set of NOS ones, still in the red, white, and black Lucas boxes.)
