Grumble Grumble winter - shop heater question

Move south.....:friendly_wink:

Have you been outside lately? Around here it's not unusual to turn the air on in the morning and the heat that night but I have never gone from shorts one day to thermals the next!!!

Here you go Tom.... The heater is no less than 25-30 years old. See the info label, it is 120v, 750 watt.
It's made by TPI Corporation. Once on their site, click on "Heating and Controls" catalog. They offer hundreds of heaters.
You can see from the pics below that I have mine hanging from a chain right next to my fluorescent light both of them being over my work bench.
Hope this helps.

Elliot, That heater reminds me when we were in a hotel in London. It was Winter, snowing, cold as all get out and the heater in the room was almost identical to yours. Wouldn't have been so bad but, you could only put enough quarters in the timer for 3 hrs. I must have spent 6 or 7 dollars in quarters that night. That wasn't bad, the bad part was I couldn't get the wife to get out of the warm bed and put more money in the timer! At the time, it wasn't the most pleasant time I had in the UK. Funny now though. PJ

I'd be happy to send it to you Paul to bring back some "fond" memories. This time though, it's her turn to put the quarters in :encouragement:

All joking aside, we had a great time visiting relatives, some I never met before. We were treated like Royalty by all! Wonderful people! :encouragement: PJ

When I was a kid I lived in an apartment in London with my parents (early '50s). The heater in that apartment had a coin slot like the one Paul described.

No money.......no heat.

The landlord would come every so often to empty the coin box.

(it probably took "pence" or "tuppence"......certainly not quarters) ;)

I bought the wife a 10 X 20 garden shed, fully insulated and installed one of these. I think it was around 250 bucks. 13000 BTUs.

It'll run you out of the building if left on high with 20 degrees out side. Thermostatically controlled, 240 volts, it works super. :encouragement: PJ

I used to use a kerosene heater for the garage, but it always seemed to be in the way. So, I bought one of those heaters pictured above and put it on a shelf. I have no insulation in my garage, but that heater will warm my 14x20 space up just nicely. Next summer, insulation is on my list of things to do so I can keep the electric bills down on the heating and air conditioning of the garage.

You have a link or model name for that heater? I've got a 12x20 space to heat (no gas lines) and would like to see some better options.

Your probably right Nial, as we exchange money at a bank when were there. Gee it's he!! getting old and trying to remember things! :rolleyes2:

Elliot, I think I'm going with this one for the garage, I gave the wrong BTU on the red one! 5600 BTU for the red one. The one I'm getting for the garage,(3 car), is this one from Northern Tool. $249. 20,000+ BTU

I have a much smaller space and use a 1500W electric heater that does a decent job. I usually wear pretty heavy clothes, too, so I can work in cooler temps, although below 50 isn't much fun.

Up at the hangar in Fawn Grove, they use the propane torpedo type heaters. They work really well for such a large space. I went up on the loft and it was a near sauna.

I need a heater that will put out enough to heat a 24X30X9'ceilings, 3 car garage. 20,000 BTU should do it. PJ
