It sounds like it is going to work out OK for you. I hope so. My wife got hit a couple of years ago by a woman that ran a red light. The other lady claimed my wife had caused the wreck. If a witness hadn't later come forward, we may have been screwed. I learned a lot during that wreck settlement. Good luck.

Oh, been there; done that!
When my TF was hit by a guy with fly-by-night insurance his adjuster tried to claim the costs for repairs (that's "restoration" if you don't mind!) were excessive. She actualy said, "After all, it was an old car." I gave her a mini lecture on the value of the classic 1954 MGTF and put some new colors in her paintbox that day! They paid up.

Jaybird, I, too live in a small town where everyone knows everyone else, and I wouldn't hesitate for a minute in filing charges for the hit and run. It seems that some people think they can justify or mitigate their actions by just throwing money at them. Maybe a little "positive reinforcement" through the legal system can change that attitude.

I received the check for repairs in yesterday's mail and a signed paper saying they would be responsible for any additional repairs that might incur from the accident. ((think I can finagle a new paint job out of this?)) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif
The B goes into the hospital for surgery on the 31st. Overnight stay but the prognosis is excellent.
I did take her uptown yesterday for another estimate. It was double what John quoted us. Both gave me the same price for a complete paint job though...$3500. Stripping the car down, primer, base coat, clear coat sanded and polished. Seems reasonable from what I've heard.

Hi, Jaybird. My wife just reminded me about a simalar incident but where I was the hitter. This happened about 1965. I was driving a yellow PU from the Co. parking lot. There was a telephone pole to my left that blocked the view at the exit. I stopped, then thinking I was in the clear, started forward when my rider screamed "Stop!" I slammed on my brakes just as this nice car zipped across in front of me. Everything seemed OK so I turned left and was headed home when I heard this frantic honking behind me. Well, the woman said I hit her and should have stopped where I was. I said "nonsense" but she insisted that she felt a bump from my truck so we looked for damage. She had a bit of yellow paint on her chrome trim strip and I had a smudge on the front of the truck. That was all the damage. I wiped her trim with my hankerchief and forgot the whole thing. So I guess it can happen that you can get a minor scrape and the other person not realize they have touched you. (But I would still let them buy me a new paint job!)
