GRRRRR No Start

Sorry, I must take exception to that if you are talking about the cam and crank sprokets, they must be spot on. No exceptions for the engine to run correctly.

UPDATE ?? got #1 at tdc and checked all the valve settings, good! checked distributor seemed to be ok, still nothing. took dist drive out and turned it 180 and put it back in had to turn the dist shaft 180 also for it to fit( my other goes in either way?),closed it all up again and -----Nothing,not even chuffing now, so reversed everything I did and tried again-----still nothing. noticed the fuel pump is noisy (facet, noisy anyway)so undid the fuel line at the carb and turned on the ignition and -----nothing. Pulled the drain plug on the tank and "yes you guessed it" nothing. Won't run without go juice no matter what you do. Put $10 gas in the tank and tried again and ----splutter splutter, then nothing. AH well tomorrow's another day and will start from scratch AGAIN. At least this time it will have fuel and a fully charged battery. Thanks for all the advice guys. Will keep you posted

I had to think long and hard about that jack /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angel.gif

We've ALL been there, Will.

No biggie. Now just "Logic Through" the rest of the "drill."

Willie, don't feel bad if it was only out of gas. I could tell an embarassing story about my TR4A.
But, I won't. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonono.gif

Okay , worked on it for another 4 hrs today and ----nothing. Now i am not even getting fuel into the cyls, plugs are as dry as a bone. There is lots of gas and it is reaching the carbs. I guess I had better pull the tops and see if there is fuel in the bowls and there is spark.I think I had the timing set wrong for some insane reason I thought the exhaust valve was the inlet DUH!! so I got that sorted out(I think), the dist drive gear in the right position and the leads on the right plugs and now no fuel at the plugs They should be soaked by now but can't even smell fuel in the cyls. Ah well there is always tomorrow and it is not going anywhere until spring although i won't be working on it when it is 15-20 below in an unheated shed bbbrrrrrr. Thanks for listening to me rant.

Rant all ya want, brother!

Pop the tops off'n the bowls and clean/inspect the needle valves. You're almost THERE!!!

Now that's what I would do, a little raw fuel in the intakes and give it a try. We use to use a coke bottle but I guess those days are long gone.

hehe, wifes baster should work well.

Don't DO that!! I did it with Mother's turkey baster as a 19-year-old... NOT a pleasant experience...

I have an old one on my work bench. Stays there just for fuel.

...Why on EARTH would ya accuse me of a thing like THAT!?!?!?

gas, air, and spark will get u goin ; )
a few years ago my Bravada got new injectors,
new fuel pump, and various other parts, just
because IT said it had 1/4 tank of gas....
turned out to be a few cup fulls! DOH! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

check for stuck floats or carb pistons,
ive had both..ran real bad if at all...zimmmy

Have the timing spot on and squirted some gas into the carbs with a syringe I had for refilling my inkjet cartridges (Didn't want to use my fishing ones and gassy worms will not attract fish)and she tried to go. Battery seemed to drain quickly so I figured that the starter was creating a huge drain and it was noisy so I changed it and NOTHING(the one I took out was a spare that I had and I had never used it until last month. The one that didn't work was the original one that did work but not now, so now i have another project on my hands. Any way it seems to be the battery that is pooched and is not holding the charge. This is just another step in the saga of wee willies wee car.

Well it is old, and a bit tired, but when you get it sorted out it will be good for another 20 years.
