GRR. Securon...How do these seat belts go in?

The instructions I got with the Securon Inertia seatbelts isn't worth the paper it is printed on. I am trying to install them on the '71. It appears, from the sheet, and from looking at a picture in the Bentley's, that it is supposed to attach to the top of the inner wheel well. I don't have a hole with bolt at that position. The old belt was bolted to the bottom, close to the handle to tilt the seat up. The large assembly on this one will not fit there, especially if the seat is latched back.
Please.. I need some help with this. The Mrs. plans on driving it to work for the first time tomorrow, but with the old belt, I am a little apprehensive.
Thanks

Paul

This is what I was thinking.

Got all this:

If it goes here, does it go on top of the deck or under the deck?

Going to be dark in 4 hours. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

It goes under the deck me thinks, but that's just a S.W.G. on my part. The seat belt is anchored completely differently in my car.

Yes... There ~should~ be a set of bolts at the vertical part of the rear wheel-well on the inside you can adapt to accept the "reel".

I thought every MGB ever built had those tie-downs. It's not the most structural answer but the easiest one. if you need reference measurements Paul, I will photo and chart what the '64 has as an anchor.

If you could Doc, that would be great. I would move them when I put the new carpeting in in the fall. Where they are now interferes with the top resting when it is down and the seatbelt itself rubs along one of the top rails. Dumb design, but they seem to work well.

1. The driver side reel mounts with the plastic adjustor knobs facing the floor with the belt exiting forward. There *should* be a captive nut welded to the very back of the wheel arch.

2. The static end of the belt gets anchored to the floor about where the door edge is. I believe there is a spacer /distance tube that you must use as an insert into the steel tang. This lets you tighen the bolt onto the tube, but the tang still spins on the spacer.

3. The belt receptacles mount on either side of the gearbox tunnel with the words "Securon" facing the door.

My digicam is charging, photos at 11.

Good, Scott! All I've got here for reference is the older CB car, the mount point at the wheel arch is different.

And I have no mount points on my wheel arches. That is what added to my confusion. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif But they are in now. My wife took it to work today, the first long run down to the City, and said they were quite comfortable.
I was just glad the car made the hour 15 minute drive down there. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

Is this the 71? If so, the 71's had a weird (sorry...unusual) mounting system on top of the deck, with a mounting anchor and attachement to the belt...without the inertia set up. I don't know if the anchor for the belt was even installed then /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Weird would be the correct term. It seems to me that the folks who built these cars did not do the same thing on two cars, all have something different. I did mount them under the deck, with the extension that came with it added. The instructions in the first box were different then in the second /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif So when I read them.. it kinda made sense. I will change them over at some point though, if I find it interferes too much with the top.
