grr! rusty old heater pipes...

just a minor little vent here. Nothing much other than me getting minorly upset with myself, and old parts.

As I've mentioned somewhere else on the board, I found that my car is missing the heat shield ('76 B). I just got it Monday, and finally had time and daylight to install it today. While installing it, I found that I had to reposition the radiator to heater pipe (it runs under the heat shield on '76s) I tugged on the hose a bit to get the pipe to line up with the hole in the heat shield and mounting plate. I got it into position, but the 30 y.o. pipe was so corroded and weak that it cracked and spewed out all of the coolant that was in the heater core. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/pukeface.gif

It's kind of funny after the fact, but at the time it irked me, because now the 'B is out of commission until a new pipe arrives from Moss. *sigh* Ah well, I knew engine was running too good for too long, and it was about time for something to happen to put her out of commission for a couple of days.

Ahh Nunyas, I'm sorry to hear that! I hope the pipe comes stat and you're back on the road as quickly as possible.

Good thing it happened in the driveway and not out on the road. If it was that weak, then it was going to happen soon anyway......Every cloud has a silver lining ( and silver dosen't rust and break)

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif Yeah, about 5 minutes after my swearing stopped i said to myself and my audience, "well at least I wasn't driving when it happened"... then I had to explain what happened and why it was bad... (room mates' mid teen boy... he knows car makes and models, but not what makes them tick).

Banjo said it all. If it was that weak then it's fortunate it broke when it did. I'm sure you've already thought of this but be sure to check out all other parts of the heating and cooling system while the car is apart. Good luck!

Really could have been worse just a few days latter and Moss would be filling orders the old fashioned way:

During this time, we will be taking orders by hand for processing as soon as possible at the start of each following work week. Please be aware that our staff will be working without access to any computer data that is normally available. Man, you got it good!
